Why are the KLK type(multimeter) fuses so expensive?

The KLK type fuses are rated for 600V, 100,000A interruption rating and
are 1 1/2" long by 2/5" diameter (picture a 3/4 length AAA battery)
and are available from 1/10 A to about 30A and cost around EIGHT
DOLLARS a piece.

They're more expensive than the 200,000A interruption rating, larger,
knife blade fuses using a generous amount of copper at the end blades,
which cost around $2-5

Any idea why they cost so much?

Could be that the meter fuse is ceramic cased with end caps and the
demand for these items is not great compared to other tubular types.
The law of supply and demand thus makes them expensive compared to
popular types. They are also guaranteed to not explode violently
inside your meter which would mean a new meter if it did. Knife blade
fuses don't have the same reliability and safety aspects and are made
using a cheaper process.
