Hi,
Automatic shut off.
I was considering two method for an automatic shut off of a battery charger.
I was looking atthis one from Tony's
http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/circ/bcgla.htm
When the battery is charged Q1 takes over and bypass the battery. But i am
seeing that the positive of the battery is also onenctd to the emitter of
Q1, and the collector to the ground of the battery, Doesn'that mean it is
still charging a bit ?
Also this one thats uses a relay. Is there also one more stable then the
other.
And also I was told that I should add a short circuit protection, in case i
hook up the battery at the wrong pole.
For this I thought of adding a 15 volt zener diode on the ground cable. So
if someone conencts it to the positive of the battery no harm done. Or
possibly a diode and a buzzer from the ground to the positive, so when
hooked up in reverse, the buzzer will sound.

It is still charging a bit, but not because of Q1.

You did not post a reference to what you call "this one".

Charger (-)-------+---------------------- to battery (-)
If you hook it up properly, the relay will energize,
closing the N/O (Normally Open) relay contact and
completing the circuit from the charger to the battery.
If you hook it up backwards, the relay will not energize,
but the buzzer will have a complete path through the N/C
(Normally Closed) contact to the charger. It will sound
if the charger is turned on.
There are more sophisticated circuits, but I get the sense
you would prefer something simple like this.

Because I am a bit confused for the gate 1-8 on the LM 301.
Even with the description, I do not understand.
I think because of the capacitor, the charger do not turn back on.
otherwise it would.

I am just starting out, I dom not know what is better, Actually I found only
one circuit, which was extremely complex and had other components beside it,
So I did not bother.
so what does the other sophisticated circuits have more?
