Wega remote

I have a model KV-32FS120. the problem I am having is with the remote. some times it works and some time it does not. I did the obivous and changed the batteries, I programed a all in one remote I have and it does the same thing. I have a contract for service from where I bought the TV. The Tech came out tonight 7-31-06 and told me that it was the florsent lamp that I have next to my chair. Is this possiable?
I think I am having my leg pulled. I beleive it is the sensor in the TV.
