JVC av56wp30 56" TV, no red convergence control
|
|
|
I have a customers set in the shop, that the red convergence is way off,
and the on screen convergence settings will let me move the red from side
to side, but the up-down controls don't work at all. I am guessing a chip
or other component in the convergence circuit has popped. Anynbody seen
this in this model? Thank you much...

Mike, I am not a Pro, but I had the same problem with a 50" Hitachi,
but it was the blue that wouldn't move. I had to replace the
convergence amp. This fixed this problem. Hope this helps. |

Replace both STK convergence IC's, also check low value resistors.
..5, or 1.0 ohms approx.

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it. "Because of the interlock on the back
on this JVC, I don't wan't to take the back off until I have the parts.
Seems this is a very common problem with this set, so I am going to try to
find the part numbers and get them on order first. I'm just glad I knew
about the booby trap on the back, or this could of been a real pain.

You can do the convergence surgery through the front panel of this
model without removing the back and setting off the booby trap.

Good you're aware of it.
The booby trap is the optical sensor under a hole in the DVI metal
box. Unplug power plug and wait a minute, remove panel, unplug all
wires to the DVI module and you can work on it safely with power on.
Also you can work from front for convergence job only, if this model
uses long retangular convergence board (no screws, held in place with
snap hooks with metal box. you can get it out from front and reach
deep to release one of cables from holders and unplug from the small
stand up PCB.
I did this on several of those.

Thanks for the tip, John. I replaced the ICs and one burnt out resistor,
and the set is working fine. I have a question about it. After I replaced
the ICs, the auto convergence pulled the center together real well, but I
had to manually adjust the outsides of the screen, which were pretty far
off. Also, the heatsinks on the ICs are running pretty darn hot, although
the ICs themselfs seem to be only warm, I can leave my finger on them.
Should these heatsinks run hot, and is the outside convergence needing to
be manually aligned, normal? Or should I be on the lookout for something
else? Thanks for the help...

Replacing STK392-110 didn't work

I have the same problem with my JVC. The red will converge up and down, but not left to right. I replaced both STK392-110 chips, but the problem is the same.
Any suggestions? |
